New Sports Centre
One of my jobs as OSD has been to serve on the Physical Access Working Group (PAWG). It’s responsible for enacting a policy of Universal Design on all buildings in college.
One of the projects we’ve been involved in has been the new sports centre in the noth-east corner of TCD. The plan of the building through up a few issues and we made our recommendations to the architects. Stuff like door entry, fire refuge areas, swimming pool access and the threading of the stairs were all commented on.
One thing we’re hoping to discuss in an upcoming meeting however is the gym equipment that will be suitable for people with disabilities who use the facilities. Hopefully college will see fit to provide a modest budget for such things…
