Spencer Tunick Dublin Day 2

Were the second days photo shoot took placeWe have just got back from the second days photo shoot just off Grand Canal Dock a short while ago. In all there were over 100 people who braved the second night running of nude portraiture.

Thankfully it wasn’t all outdoors like the previous night as Spencer used the new tower block of apartments just off the Grand Canal Dock area to shoot what could be described as his most loved up photos of the Dublin Installations.

The couples who turned up for the 3.30AM shoot were placed on the balconies and were put in two poses. The first was of each couple simply kissing and the second shot was of the couples hugging (whilst nude of course).

The second setup was with the singletons and the couples together in a pose with our backs facing away from the camera. It was all done quite quickly in comparison to the previous day where we braved the elements for several hours.

Lastly, around 50 or so women were brought up to the roof of the building and were shot laying on their sides. Us guys just had to wait it out on the road below but we did see a couple of women up on top of the building (see pic).

The camaraderie of the people we met was simply amazing. We had all braved the icy waters the previous night and, in a peculiar way, brought us together since we all had a common bond that we instantly chat and laugh about.

For anyone who reads this blog and is apprehensive about doing through such an experience, my only advice is this… GO DO IT!!! The people that I spoke to traveled from various parts of the county and from various European countries to experience such an enriching event. Everyone left with a smile and in good spirits and will have fabulous memories for a lifetime.

Spencer Tunick Nakedness in Dublin

Spencer Tunick DublinWhat a crazy morning!!!

Having amazingly managing to wake myself up at 2am, myself and (allegedly) 2699 other nudist/artsy/inebriated/hippie/cool/Dublin people managed to catch the free buses from outside the Customs House to the south pier of Dublin Port (Pigeon House Rd). Everyone was in great spirits with random outbursts of cheering and general merriment.

Some of us did have a little paranoia set in that this was somehow the governments response to the Lisbon No vote… Bumping off a load of No voters on a dark pier in the middle of the night!! LOL

The walk down the pier took forever and seemed to have no end due to the fact that the sea was extremely calm either side of us and that it was pitch black.

As we huddled together (in our clothes I might add) waiting for sunrise we all seemed to amazed by the sheer numbers of people coming to the event. Personally I thought that there was going to be 1200 people at most but we ended up with over double that amount and more!!! Not bad for 3AM on a Saturday morning in Dublin!!

The stripping off happened quite quickly and far from what you might think, no one ogled each other or were generally inappropriate. Yeah we weren’t blind but after a few seconds we seemed to all realise that it’s nothing we hadn’t seen before and that without all the designer clothes and stuff we’re all pretty much the same.

Walking along a pier open to the elements with several cargo and passenger ships going by (Stena Line we know you were looking!!!!) made us strangely liberated!!! There’s something indescribable about mass nudity in public… It’s a moment that burns in to your head and makes you lose all those prudish hangups that we Irish have gathered over the years!

We did our three poses on the pier (standing facing the sunrise, laying back on the ground staring up to the sky like we were sunbathing, and then a strange one where we all went into a fetal position) and then we moved back down the pier for the next shots.

However… The rain set in and in an extraordinary version of Chinese Whispers we found out that the second setup was being canceled and we would be going to a third ‘surprise’ setup. Ankle deep on the sandy beach next to the pier!!!

The group that I was with pretty much agreed to not do it for fear of pneumonia caused by the freezing water and the driving rain. That was before we saw the number of people doing it!!! Hundreds of people jumping around cheering and generally going crazy!!! :) It took seconds before we raced on to the beach in our birthday suits…

The shot on the beach took about 5 minutes but it was awesome to be part of!!! I’m sure the photo will turn up at some point in the future and you can see what I meant! The pain of the cold water was definitely worth it!

So there you go… I bet none of you guessed that I would be one of ‘those people’ hehe :)
